Ilsington History Group- Mines & Quarries

At this meeting we'll look at the quarrying & mining that took place throughout the parish.

We know there are disused quarries from Drumbridges to Haytor and we are hoping to:

• identify & locate as many of the quarries as we are able
• establish what was quarried or mined at each site & the dates active
• find as much information about each site as we can, both documentary & pictorial
• see what remains of the sites

Whilst there is a lot of information about the main quarries, there's very little for most of the others & we are hoping to fill the knowledge gap so we need your help to see what we can unearth!

Please bring along anything you may have that will help us in our investigations- information, documents, pictures, anything else- or just come along to find out what it's all about.

This is an ongoing project which we will be working on through the autumn & winter and we have scheduled our next meeting for November 4th, to see how much more we've been able to find out & add to our map.
